MADRID, ONE DAY IN THE ROYAL CITY

1 DAY
Category:
  • Prado Museum of Madrid tour
  • Lope de Vega house
  • Plaza Mayor, Madrid
  • Prado Museum, Madrid

We will start out the day with a tour of The Prado Museum of Madrid, one of the world’s greatest art museums.

Then, we will cross the Paseo de la Castellana, one of the city’s main arteries, over to the Thyssen-Bormemisza Museum.

We’ll break for a coffee on the museum terrace, which offers spectacular views of the capital.

We’ll then stroll through the Hapsburg neighborhood, which hasn’t lost the atmosphere of the capital city during the Siglo de Oro (Spanish Golden Age).

Furthermore, we’ll pass by houses previously inhabited by Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega, and have lunch in Spain’s oldest restaurant, founded in 1725.

In the afternoon we will visit the 18th century Royal Palace, giving us a taste of the lifestyle of the Spanish Bourbon monarchy in the olden days.

It was a time when the cultural atmosphere at court drew the talents of some of the greatest artists of the age, such as the painter Tiepolo and the composer Boccherini.

Our tour finishes in the city center, leaving you free to explore the old town.
