Our destination is Jerez de la Frontera, the best place to learn what makes Andalusian culture what it is.
We will first stop at Arcos, a town whose whitewashed walls stand out against the surrounding verdant landscape.
This town is a perfect example of what are known as ‘Pueblos Blancos’: little white villages usually found perched on the precipice of a sheer cliff face.
We will then travel to the city of Jerez, known the world over for its famous Sherry wine.
Jerez, however, also has a proud tradition of raising some of the world’s finest horses, and a trip to Jerez would not be complete without a demonstration of equestrian ballet at the city’s Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art.
The unique show, How the Andalusian Horses Dance, sees beautiful horses dancing to the sound of Spanish traditional music, with choreography based on classical dressage, doma vaquera, and traditional equestrian exercises.
In the afternoon, we will enjoy a brief tour of the city, including the town’s Moorish castle, known as an Alcazaba.
Later, we will visit one of the oldest and most famous Jerez bodegas, where we will be shown the Sherry-making process.
A final tasting of the best local wines and sherries makes for the perfect Andalusian experience.
