In this journey into the deep past of Catalonia, we will learn about the ancient Roman history that shaped these lands and the processing of grapes, olives, and wheat.
These essential agricultural products are the pillars of the Mediterranean diet, and were all introduced to Hispania by Greeks and Romans thousands of years ago.
We will first visit the facilities of a well-known local winery and enjoy a fine wine tasting in a beautiful setting.
Then, we will proceed to Tarragona, known to Imperial Romans as Tarraco, and discover the city’s archeological heritage which includes a beautifully preserved amphitheater.
After Tarragona, we will learn about the local rural lifestyle in a traditional Catalan farmhouse.
We will tour the farmhouse’s 18th-century oil mill, where we will understand how olives are pressed to make oil, and then sample different kinds of this liquid gold.
We will wrap up the farmhouse visit with a first-rate traditional meal.
